UUID Generator

Generate UUID version 4 and version 7 values in batches with cryptographically secure randomness.

Processed locally. Nothing from the editor is stored.

How to use UUID Generator

Version 4 is random. Version 7 is time-ordered and still uses random data for the rest of the identifier. Both come from the uuid library, which uses the Web Crypto random source. Values are checked for version before they are shown.

  1. Choose version 4 or version 7.
  2. Choose a count from 1 to 1,000.
  3. Generate, then copy one value, copy the list, or download it as text.

Examples

Create a primary key

A version 4 UUID looks like 8-4-4-4-12 hex digits with the version nibble set to 4. It is not derived from your input.

Create sortable identifiers

Version 7 values generated together sort roughly by creation time. They are still unique identifiers, not timestamps you should decode for security decisions.

Questions

Are these UUIDs random enough for identifiers?

They use cryptographically secure randomness from the platform crypto API. That is the appropriate source for unique IDs. This page is not a key-management system.

Does version 7 reveal the time?

Version 7 includes a timestamp component. Do not use it when the creation time itself must stay hidden.
