JSON Diff Checker

Compare two JSON documents side by side. See added, removed, and modified values across nested objects and arrays.

Processed locally. Nothing from the editor is stored.

How to use JSON Diff

The comparison is structural. Object key order does not create a difference. Arrays are compared by index, so an inserted item shifts later indexes and shows up as a change.

  1. Paste the original JSON on the left and the updated JSON on the right.
  2. Choose Compare. Invalid JSON names the side that failed.
  3. Read the summary counts and the path list. Swap sides if you want the opposite direction.

Examples

Review an API change

Comparing {"user":{"name":"Ada"}} with {"user":{"name":"Lin","role":"dev"}} reports a modified user.name and an added user.role.

See an array removal

Removing the last item of ["a","b"] reports tags[1] as removed when the path is tags. Indexes start at 0.

Questions

Why did reordering keys not show a change?

The checker compares objects by key. {"a":1,"b":2} and {"b":2,"a":1} are the same structure.

How are arrays compared?

By index. The tool does not guess which object moved inside an array.
